Wetlands Exchange Workshop for Children among three lagoons; Saroma Lake (Japan), Songkhla Lake (Thailand), Chilika Lagoon (India), was taken place at Chilika Lagoon, a Ramsar Site, India, on 6-7 February 2005.

From Saroma Lake, Mr. Takumi Sotomura(Age:12) and Mr. Kazuma Chiya(Age:12), and also from Songkhla Lake, Ms. Chuleeporn Intraksa(Age:16) participated in the workshop. Participants took on a tour of Chilika Lagoon by the fishing boat. During the tour, they found one of rare spiecies, Irawadi Dolphine and various kinds of wild bird like flamingo and pelican. And also, they could watch people catch shrimps and clubs.

During the tour of fishing village from Japan and Thailand met twenty of local children, and all the children from three countries spent time together playing with a ball game. Also, Japanese fisherman showed how to rope to fish in Japan.

What children had felt and learned in this workshop was reported on the last day of Asian Wetland Symposium 2005 (6-9 February, Bhubaneswar, India) in front of all the participants, and received with cheers. RCJ hopes that wetlands exchange program that focused on children will develop ever more in the future.
