"Sakata Water Birds Watching" was held on 4th February 2005 that was the midwinter with a wind and snow. It was organized by Sakata To Ayumu Akatsuka No Kai. Besides of heavy weather, 21 people (9 children and 12 adults) attended this event.

In early morning, they were lectured by using sticker of AWW and materials of observation at the Waterfowl and Wetland Center in Sakata, and went out the field. They watched wild ducks or teals and looked up the swan's family while walking to observation shed. They looked at the differences of the acting between swan and ducks through telescopes at the observation shed. They compare the real bird with illastration from the illastration sheet and the sound of fun was ringing inside the shed.

Afer that, we went to the harb garden on the hill near the observation shed. We drank the harb tea and get warm with a wonderful view of Sakata. The time past very soon and we went back same route slowly. During the way back, children began the snowball fight at the open space. They liven up the most and it seemed that observation meeting changed to the snowball fight meeting.

The waterbirds that depend on wetland of Sakata and the children that live near the wetland. I think they are concerned each other like usual and natural, although it's going to the future.

I watched the moment that white tailed Sea Eagle fell on the ducks after the meeting. It was wonderful that thousands of ducks was flying. I saw the children watched the white tailed Sea Eagle with amazing, and it's left an impression on my mind.

I would like to thank you for Mr. Ike who was Guide, Mr. Murakami and Hukai who is the member of Wild Bird Society of Niigata.
