China/Korea/Japan Jointly Event
on Asian Wetlands Week CelebrationgChildren & Wetlandsh



On January 18th and 19th 2003, China/Korea/Japan Jointly Event on Asian Wetlands Week Celebration-gChildren & Wetlandsh was held at the Yatsu-Higata Nature Observation Center in Chiba prefecture, Japan. Children from China, Korea, and Japan who have been living near wetlands gathered for the purpose of strengthening international cooperation on conserving the wetland resources in Asia.@

Children at the first dinner on the day of arrival (Jan. 17th), becoming friends right away. Children at the Mimomi-Hongo Park, during the bus tour in Narashino City on Jan. 18th. They visited the Japanese rice fields and a Japanese traditional house in a country side left in Narashino City.
Opening ceremony for the China/Korea/Japan Jointly Event on Asian Wetlands Week Celebration- gChildren & Wetlandsh, held on Jan. 19th, at the Yatsu-Higata Nature Observation Center. More than 40 participants including children and adults have taken part in the event.


In the morning of Jan. 19th, 9 children from 3 countries have delivered vaious speeches about the wetlands, wildlife, and conservation activities in their hometowns. Children have actively participated in exchanging their ideas.@
Ms. Seong Wan (Korea / 12 years old), making a speech on the 4 seasons of Woopo wetland (Ramsar Site) near her home.
Ms. Wang Yuting (China / 11 years old), presenting her ideas about the Zalong Nature Reserve (Ramsar Cite) and the cranes living there.
Mr. Lee Hee Oun (Korea / 10 years old), giving a speech about the function and significance of wetlands. Mr. Zhao Hangqing (China / 12 years old), making a presentation on the necessity of conservation of wild birds and wetlands near his home, Panjing City.
Ms. Xu Zhenzhu (China / 11 years old), delivering her experiences at the lake located near Beijing, refering to her feelings toward the swans and ducks she met there. Ms. Kim Hyeon Gyeong (Korea / 9 years old), delivering a speech about the nature and the living creatures in Woopo wetland (Ramsar Site), with beautiful traditional Korean clothes.

Ms. Rie Takeda, Ms. Mai Wakui, Ms. Ayaka Takeda (Japan / all 12 years old) from Yatsu-Minami elementary school gave a group presentation on the living things and importance of the Yatsu tideland (Ramsar Site). Members of Yatsu-Minami elementary school brought hand-made stuffed dolls and carved wooden birds to explain about the wild birds seen in the Yatsu tideland.


In the afternoon, children from the 3 countries went to the computer lab at the Yatsu-Minami elementary school to make a gWetland Newspaperh, which includes drawings, photographs taken by their own, and messages for their new friends.
